Crete is the largest island of Greece and the fifth larger island of the Mediterranean. The littoral of more than 1000 kilometers is composed of sandy beaches and rock banks. It is made up in its center of solid masses limestones which can approach the 2.500 m on which plains open where cultivate corn, the vine and the olive-tree. The island saw primarily tourism with an multitude record in July-August, in particular on by far the most attended northern coast.
