It was entirely created by the Netherlanders thanks to the draining of the sea which was there until 1932, year of the creation of the AfsluitDijk dam. The dam made it possible to isolate this part of the territory from the sea. The ground should then have been drained, according to the technique of the polders, and work lasted until 1968. The province of Flevoland received its final name in 1986.
